LO1: Sample Materials (Masthead Designs)

This is my collage of masthead designs that I would choose when making a punk rock magazine.

 

These masthead designs are effective when creating a punk rock music magazine as these fonts are stereotypically associated with punk rock products so when people see these masthead designs they will immediately recognise that this will be a music magazine about punk rock. However the fonts that I have chosen within the software Word aren't the type of masthead designs that I have placed within my collage as I am limited with the type of fonts I can choose. Fundamentally I can use the website 'DaFont' so that it gives me access to a larger range of fonts that can suit my product.

This would be a suitable font for my magazine as it has that white lettering with the surrounding darkness of the colour black which makes the letters look messy and imperfect, which associates with the theme of Punk Rock because this font also matches with my chosen fonts that placed within my collage above.

This is another suitable masthead that I have chosen from the website 'DaFont' as this makes the lettering look dirty and old, which is associated with the theme of punk rock as I have seen fonts like this been used within already produced punk rock magazines.

This is a similar font compared to the other two examples above but the features that make this masthead different is how imperfect the positioning of the lettering is with the contrast of the black and white colours. This font doesn't have scratch marks like the one above does but it still presents that theme of punk rock through the black border of the lettering as again I have seen this type of font associated with punk rock products.

This example of another type of masthead is perfect to use within my magazine as this is very similar to the type of fonts that I have chosen within my mood board/collage of fonts and they include features such as scratchy and messy letters with the black boarder coating around the letters in a paint like design. This font also has the word 'punk' in the title of it which leads me to think that this is a font that is associated with Punk Rock. This overall is one of my favourite fonts that I have chosen to use from this website.
